The Bishop Seabury boys basketball team will be playing for some hardware this weekend.

BSA took down Central Heights for a 65-54 win Thursday night at Pleasanton High School. With the win, the Seahawks will take on Maranatha in the sub-state championship at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Pleasanton.

“They did a great job of following the game plan offensively, and getting the stops and rebounds that we needed defensively in the second half,” BSA head coach Jonathan Raney said. “We talked at halftime about coming out and having our best third quarter of the season and we were able to do that.”

Sophomore point guard Zach Bloch had another tremendous showing for the Seahawks, finishing with a team-high 23 points. Stavian Jones continued his recent surge by scoring 16 points, while Miles Branch registered 15 points.

“This may have been one of Miles’ best games of the season,” Raney said. “He was so engaged defensively, and I thought that really translated to the offensive end where he was so active.”

Bishop Seabury was once again without Chris Green Jr., who injured his ankle and has missed the past two games. Raney said he’s hopeful that Green could be back for the sub-state championship.

Bishop Seabury (65)

Stavian Jones 16, Joao Carlos Ramirez 8, Sam Bayliss 1, Zach Bloch 23, Miles Branch 15.

Eudora 50, Iola 22

Eudora’s girls basketball team netted a trip to the sub-state championship with a 50-22 win over Iola Thursday night at EHS.

The Cardinals posted three double-digit quarters and were in control from the start. Eudora was led by a 29-point showing from Riley Hiebert. Reagan Hiebert added 10 points to join her in double figures. Harper Schreiner (6 points), Emily Watson (3 points) and Emma Durr (2 points) all scored as well.

Eudora will travel to Labette County at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Baldwin 62, Atchison 21

The defending state champions are now one win away from returning to the Class 4A state tournament.

Baldwin eased past Atchison for a 62-21 win Thursday night at BHS to advance to the sub-state championship. Kate Ogle led a balanced offensive attack with 18 points. Macey Frost was the only other Bulldog in double figures with 11 points. Baldwin scored more points in the first quarter (22) than Atchison produced for the entire game.

Baldwin will play host to Parsons at 6 p.m. Saturday.
