FSHS boys basketball nets 3rd place at Hays City Shootout

Free State’s boys basketball team came home with some hardware in its first tournament of the 2019-20 campaign.

The Firebirds pushed past Hays High School for a 46-31 win Saturday in the third-place game of the Hays City Shootout. Free State came away with two wins and one loss in the three-game tournament, though its lone defeat was a 51-49 loss to Manhattan High.

In the win over Hays, a pair of players scored in double figures for FSHS. Ethan Lincoln tallied a team-high 12 points, which came off four 3-pointers. Olin Yoder finished with 10 points, connecting on a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter. DK Middleton recorded all 7 of his points in the first half.

Free State (2-1, No. 4 in Class 6A) will travel to Shawnee Mission Northwest on Dec. 20.
