KU volleyball defeats TCU to open Big 12 play
Junior outside hitter Jada Burse recorded a career-high 23 kills to lead the University of Kansas volleyball team to a 3-1 victory (28-30, 27-25, 25-21, 25-23) over TCU Saturday afternoon at Horejsi Family Athletics Center to begin Big 12 play.
The Jayhawks (8-4, 1-0 Big 12) extend their winning streak to four matches after capturing a Big 12-opening victory for the fourth-consecutive season.
“That’s how this league is going to be,” head coach Ray Bechard said in a team release. “During nonconference play, we played some five-setters that were pretty tight. You could sense there was a different feel for today’s conference opener. I think it’s imperative that if we get an opportunity to play at home, we need to take full advantage of it.”
Burse recorded her 23rd kill on match point. Junior outside hitter Ashley Smith added 13 kills, while middle blockers Rachel Langs and Zoe Hill contributed eight kills each. Freshman setter Camryn Ennis matched her season-high 39 assists.
Kansas travels to Oklahoma at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
