Photos: Douglas County hosts sendoff for longtime administrator Craig Weinaug

Several hundred people came to the Douglas County Fairgrounds that afternoon to wish Weinaug well. McElhaney was on the commission that hired Weinaug in 1992. Assistant County Administrator Sarah Plinsky has been named interim county administrator.

Douglas County Administrator Craig Weinaug retired Friday. He held the position for 26 years.

“I have loved this job,” he recently told the Journal-World. “I won’t say I’ve loved every minute of it, but I have loved this job for a very long time, and I love this community and county government.”

Weinaug’s last day with the county was Friday, Dec. 14, 2018, and several hundred people attended a reception at the Douglas County Fairgrounds to wish him well. Weinaug, who has served as county administrator since 1992, praised Douglas County as a caring place, and he urged the crowd to maintain that spirit.
