Letter to the editor: Ducking the question

To the editor:

I contacted both Tracy Mann, our congressman for Lawrence, and Roger Marshall one of our U.S. senators that are supposed to represent Kansas. I emailed a simple question to them: Do you agree with pardoning the Jan. 6 insurrectionists? Mann had an assistant call me and when I asked the assistant the same question he told me that Rep. Mann is too busy on other legislation to consider the question. To say the least, the conversation disintegrated. Marshall sent me an email informing me of what the constitution says. I emailed Marshall again, and his return email was even more confusing, just saying he hears my concerns about President Trump’s agenda. Neither of our representatives — and especially Mann, who is supposed to represent Lawrence, the largest city in his district, yet he never visits, nor has an office here — will give me a yes or no answer. I think either way they stand on this issue, we deserve an answer and I encourage anyone in Kansas to continue to ask until we receive one.
