Letter to the editor: Support those who are grieving
To the editor:
Aug. 30 is Grief Awareness Day. Please extend kindness, compassion and empathy to those who have lost a special person in their lives, regardless of the circumstances and when the loss occurred.
A grief journey is a process that can be long and difficult to eventually reach a peaceful acceptance and adjustment to a loss in our lives. Because conversations can be awkward, gentle and nonjudgmental listening can be very helpful, especially during the need to report information about the loss or during unexpected grief bursts.
I appreciate grief support group assistance and kindness as I grapple with the changes in my world after the loss of my child. I recommend supportive persons or grief support groups for those whose hearts are hurting and minds and worlds are missing the presence of their lost one. To all who are experiencing a loss, may you find peace and some comfort in your grief journey today and every day.
