Letter to the editor: Lies don’t help

To the editor:

The pernicious lie that “Democrats abandoned the working class” — recently repeated by so-called “moderate” Republican Mike Warner — is a demonstrable falsehood; key in putting a criminal would-be dictator at the world’s apex of power.

Biden took office in the midst of COVID, a pandemic prolonged by Trump and GOP lies and attacks on health care workers. By keeping Americans sick and dying, Trump and the GOP also ensured inflation. COVID, artificially kept in play by Trump and the GOP, forced businesses to raise prices in response to collapsing supply lines — or run out of goods.

Biden’s American Rescue Plan put cash in working-class pockets and kept people on payrolls. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act put working-class people back to work shoring up decaying infrastructure (something Trump promised but never did).

The Affordable Care Act expansion, the child tax credit, and SNAP program-expansion all targeted and helped the working-class. Biden’s administration lowered drug prices and capped the price of insulin. Biden’s 2022 CHIPS and Science Act and Inflation Reduction Act are now kicking in, creating jobs, slowing inflation and easing prices.

And Biden walked picket lines.

Note that Warner — or any Republican — has never cited a single Trump plan to help the working class, or anyone, beyond tariffs, which most economists agree could be catastrophic for the U.S. — and the working class specifically. People like Warner who repeat and promote lies and misinformation have betrayed our country, working-class included, a betrayal the enormous scope of which is already coming into focus.
