Letter to the editor: Election dismay
To the editor:
To say that I am appalled at the election results is an understatement. In fact, I can’t even fully express my dismay and stay within the bounds of civil discourse. I will, however, try. I will start with, Trump stating that John McCain was not a hero, only a hero because he was captured. He called the military dead and wounded suckers and losers. He staged a campaign photo op in Arlington National Cemetery. He has spoken disparagingly about the generals who served him. And yet, a majority of the military voted for him.
Trump installed the three members on the Supreme Court that enabled Roe V. Wade to be overturned. It has been well documented what heartache and tragedy that has caused. It has been proven in court that his behavior toward women is beyond the pale. Yet women (at least white women) voted for him.
The economy: Inflation is high, but not as high as it is in other developed nations. I realize that just because other people are hurting worse does not ease your pain, but it is an indicator that this is not a unique problem to the U.S. Kamala Harris had a plan to alleviate inflation. Does Donald Trump? In the last four years we have seen record low unemployment, wage increases and infrastructure repair. Yes, we have had higher interest rates (a tool to decrease inflation) and high housing costs. None of which is the fault of the administration. What, if any, is Trump’s plan for that?
As my space is limited, I will bring up one more thing. Trump loves authoritarians. His relationship with Putin should be enough to deter him from being elected to anything.
