Letter to the editor: More drinking downtown? No

To the editor:

Friday evening was another nearly perfect downtown jaunt. We had a lovely dinner with friends. I love cruising Mass and popping in for a snack or a meal, and hitting the shops, especially the bookstores. Yet while strolling after dinner I felt that something was missing, something was not perfect on Mass. Then it hit me: There were not near enough staggering drunks.

I wondered what to do about it when the Saturday Journal-World story showed that the City Commission was way ahead of me. They are already considering open-drinking on Mass. After all, that would only legalize what is already in place, open drinking and drugging downtown. If there is any way to put more sparkle on Mass it is the image of yuppies and addicts sharing a cold one on a hot night. What could possibly go wrong?

Even better, we get to one up Manhattan and show them that Aggieville is the second wildest street in Kansas. Gotta love it.

(Not!)
