To the editor:

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Douglas County and the City of Lawrence for allowing us to rent the Douglas County Fairgrounds. The Lawrence Region Antique Automobile Swap Meet is celebrating its 60th anniversary May 3-5. We are anticipating 400 vendors at this year’s meet.

We are excited to be partnering with the local 4-H Club on many aspects. They are providing all of the concessions for all three days, cleaning the restrooms, removing trash and cleaning the grounds at the conclusion of our wonderful weekend. Area car clubs help with parking and provide security, but this could not be done without the local 4-H’s assistance.

It is a pillar of our club to support other local organizations like Visiting Nurses Association, United Way, Humane Society, Saint Patrick’s Day Parade, Peaslee Tech and the AACA Museum. During the holiday season we adopt senior citizens to help make their Christmas a little bit brighter! In the spring, we provide two scholarships to local graduating seniors that will be enrolling in auto tech programs.

Each October we host a free car show where trophies and awards are presented. We have enjoyed being able to give back to the Douglas County Fairgrounds with the donations of security gates, fencing along the east side of the fairgrounds, and the construction of the shelter house on the south side.

We would be remiss if we did not express a big thank you to the area communities that attend, browse and purchase items.
