To the editor:

Thank you for the wonderful article you wrote about Mary Doveton.I met her a couple of years after my wife and I moved to Lawrence in 2002. Having formerly acted in two community theater plays in Ohio, I tried out for a part at the Lawrence Community Theatre but didn’t get it. Then I got involved with becoming a member of the Vintage Players, a group at the theater that included seniors who read and sang humorous lines on stage.

I remember the previous theater where things were rather cramped, with a smaller stage, smaller auditorium and a room in the basement that served as the reception area between performances. I do hope that Theatre Lawrence will someday consider producing plays written by local writers as there is proven talent here in Lawrence. My best wishes to Mary Doveton. She deserves our applause.
