Letter to the editor: GOP is right on trans issues

To the editor:

I do not typically agree with the thoughts of most Republican representatives. However, I think they got this one right. We should not allow a child born as a male to compete in a girl’s/women’s sport. As they mature, their physical attributes will give them an advantage over the female athlete.

I believe people have lost sight of an important fact. Very few people care if a female wishes to become a male and participate in sports. Obviously, there is a reason.

When will everyone begin to understand that the child who wishes to be identified as the opposite sex simply has an issue within the brain? There is not an intent to prohibit them from participating in sports. Just because their brain thinks they are the opposite sex does not make it so. They simply must do it in the category they were born in.

In 1976, Bruce Jenner won the decathlon at the Olympics. He beat the best male athletes in the world. Can you imagine how he would have dominated the females in those Olympics had he been allowed to do so as a female? Please, stop believing this is discrimination. A baby born as a boy or a girl will remain that initial sex even if the brain has other ideas. Unfortunately, the same should pertain to the rest rooms as well. Males transferring to female should use their birth given toilet. The brain shouldn’t decide that either.
