Letter to the editor: ‘Zero’ incorrect

To the editor:

The city’s transition to electric buses is laudable, but we must stop referring to these as “zero-emission.” They have to be plugged in eventually, and in Lawrence that means plugging into our local fossil-fuel-fired power plant. Doesn’t everyone understand that 100% electric bus means 100% powered by fossil fuel emissions electricity? I understand that there are numerous grants and political incentives to transition to electric buses. Notice that there are few similar incentives to help the city transition to generating its own clean energy.
