To the editor:

Experimentation gets worse every month in Lawrence. Old West Lawrence wants to experiment with folks driving through the area where they live, but the occupants in Old West Lawrence don’t mind driving and cutting through other neighborhoods. Selfish?

Some time ago there was an experiment with New Urbanism on Sixth Street. I have yet to see any living accommodations above the retail; guess that didn’t work so well.

And how about KU and Endowment wanting to have retail and housing at 21st and Iowa? Ah, that’s why there is a bike boulevard from Mass. Street to Iowa, or was that another wasteful experiment?

And now KU wants to go online, so why all the fuss at 21st and Iowa. The Ivory Tower of learning can’t make up its mind if it is in the development business or the education business. The Board of Regents does not have a clue.

And lastly, the Lawrence school district is again experimenting. No money? The administrative building’s exterior remodel was like a WPA project for architects and construction workers.

Closing schools is reminiscent of the past! Close schools only to build more. Remember the plan to build a mega grade school? Save Cordley and New York because they were “historic.” Now close New York?

Lawrence is nothing but a town of experiments gone bad. I forgot, the Robot Parking at the HERE apartment complex; how’s that working in 2022?
