Letter to the editor: No thanks to Colyer

To the editor:

After reading the story (July 21: “Sebelius doesn’t want unvaccinated people infecting others, suggests limits; Colyer says that’s ‘lunacy'”) in which former Kansas Govs. Kathleen Sebelius and Dr. Jeff Colyer sparred over how best to balance individual freedom and public responsibility with COVID-19 vaccinations, I offer these observations:

Dr. Colyer, who’s running for governor, said Kansans have the right to know if Gov. Laura Kelly agrees with Sebelius’ call for “maybe” imposing limits on where the unvaccinated can go and who they can be in contact with. That’s fair, but Kansans also have the right to know whether Dr. Colyer is vaccinated.

I’m 71 years old. I’m glad Dr. Colyer wasn’t around to dissuade my mother from making sure I got my polio shot.
