Letter to the editor: Abortion wrong

To the editor:

I read with interest the column in your paper written by Mona Charen, who wrote an opinion piece titled “Can we talk about abortion without tearing each other apart?” Mona says two important things: (1) “the overwhelming majority of adopted children are happy,” and (2) “when infants are placed for adoption, they are snapped up right away.” She also says it is almost immoral to resort to killing a child who is alive.  But I say not “almost” but “always” immoral.

It’s true, as Mona says, that the right to life for the unborn is not in the Constitution. However, it is in the Declaration of Independence, which states that we “are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Actually, the right to life is not endowed by our government, but by our Creator, and we are not at liberty to deny such right.

In conclusion, I feel the need to spend our energies (and money) on improving programs that care for infants, and not on aborting them.
