To the editor:

Lawrence school board members have proposed a new dress code. I believe this is a policy that should be approved due to the fact that the policy is not a strict one at all, which grants students the freedom to truly express themselves and not feel like they are stuck in a box.

A dress code is relevant and important because fashion trends and styles are always updating, which means that policies should be updating as well so everyone can understand what is acceptable and what is not. I am not familiar with the dress code policies of other schools, but I believe that this is a policy that can be used within other districts because it is reasonable and is not overbearing. It is a policy that students can feel comfortable with. There may be a handful of students that are not happy with the proposed policy, but you can’t please everybody.

To the board members who worked on this policy, I would like to say that the proposed policy is well written. Thank you for putting the time and effort into creating these updated policies; it is greatly appreciated.
