Thomas Barron Schaake

Services for Thomas Barron Schaake, 59, formerly of Lawrence, will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Countryside Funeral Home, Fredonia, KS. Inurnment will follow at the Fredonia Cemetery. He died January 4, 2013 of complications from pulmonary fibrosis. He grew up in Lawrence, graduated from Lawrence High School in 1971 and attended Kansas State University to pursue his interest in agronomy. He married in 1977 and began farming in Benedict while also working for Cleaver Farm & Home and National Oil Well Company in Chanute. He was noted for cultivating specialized daylily hybrids and as a photographer associated with the Winfield Bluegrass Festival since its inception. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen (Gallon), of the home; son Derek Charles, Hutchinson;father,Donald Dean, Lawrence; and, two brothers John Christian, North Pole, AK, and James Kurt, Lawrence. He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Ruth (Barron), Lawrence, in 1996.
