Passenger jet out of Kansas collides with helicopter while landing in Washington, D.C., officials say

ARLINGTON, Va. — A passenger jet that departed from Kansas has collided with a helicopter while landing at Ronald Reagan National Airport near Washington.
The Federal Aviation Administration says the collision remains under investigation. There was no immediate word on casualties, but all takeoffs and landings from the airport near Washington have been halted.
In a statement on X, the FAA said the plane departed from Wichita as PSA Airlines Flight 5342 for American Airlines.
Multiple lawmakers from Kansas posted about the crash on social media, including Sen. Roger Marshall, Sen. Jerry Moran and U.S. Rep. Tracey Mann.
“We ask you to join us in prayer for every single passenger and their families,” Marshall wrote on X.
Washington, D.C., police said on X that multiple agencies were conducting a search and rescue effort in the Potomac River after the crash.
Several helicopters, including those from the U.S. Park Police and the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department and U.S. military, were flying over the scene of the incident in the Potomac River. D.C. Fire and EMS said on X that fireboats were on the scene.
