U.S. Rep Tracey Mann, who represents Kansas’ 1st Congressional District, will host a town hall next week in Lawrence.

The public event, billed as a listening tour, will take place at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St.

Lawrence, before the recent congressional redistricting, was in the 2nd Congressional District, represented by Rep. Jake LaTurner, but the city is now part of what’s popularly known as the Big First, which covers more than 60 counties in the state. LaTurner and Mann are both Republicans.

Mann was also the lieutenant governor of Kansas under former Gov. Jeff Colyer. During his 2010 campaign for Congress, Mann was known for birtherism – or questioning the citizenship of President Barack Obama. He also cast doubt on the validity of the 2020 presidential election and objected to certifying the Electoral College results, in addition to opposing the bipartisan commission proposal to investigate the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection.

In the U.S. House, Mann currently is a member of the Agriculture Committee and the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
