A seventh grade class from St. John Catholic School on an overnight class trip to Oklahoma City was involved in a crash Tuesday morning with no injuries reported, according to a statement from the school.
The crash occurred as students and chaperones were leaving their hotel in a K-State University-branded bus when it was hit by a semi near Interstate 35 in southeast Oklahoma City. There were 24 students and four chaperones on the bus along with the bus driver, Jeff Harkin, principal of St. John Catholic School, told the Journal-World via email.
Within two hours of the incident, the bus company provided a replacement bus for the trip and the group “continued their itinerary as planned,” Harkin said. The group then visited the Blessed Stanley Rother Shrine and the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.
Harkin said this is a cultural and religious trip the school holds for seventh grade students each year. The students are scheduled to return to Lawrence on Thursday.
