Lawrence High School will be hosting its annual formal wear drive this week to make prom accessible by allowing students to select outfits at no cost.
The annual drive will be on Friday and Saturday this week, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at Lawrence High School, 1901 Louisiana St. People can drop off donations at the circle drive off of 19th Street.
The donations from the drive will support the program, Prom Dress Lawrence, which provides free, gently used formal wear, including dresses, suits, and accessories to high school students in Lawrence.
According to a flyer for the event, people are encouraged to donate prom dresses, formal and party dresses, tuxedos, dress slacks, button-up dress shirts, men’s and women’s dress shoes, brown and black leather belts and formal jewelry. The flyer said not to donate items with rips or stains.
In addition, students interested in participating in the program can attend the giveaway from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 28 in the Lawrence High School Atrium.
For people unable to attend the drive this week, contact promdresslawrence@gmail.com to arrange an alternate time to drop off donations.
