Residents turn out for the Lawrence Schools Foundation’s Kids Expo at 110 McDonald Drive on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024.
A community event providing free educational resources, shoes, haircuts, school supplies and more will be held next week to support students and families in the Lawrence school district.
The second annual Kids Expo, hosted by the Lawrence Schools Foundation, will take place on Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Lawrence school district offices at 110 McDonald Drive. The free event, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., will offer a variety of activities, plus opportunities to learn more about Lawrence Public Schools, local educational programs, businesses and extracurricular opportunities.
According to a Facebook post from the Lawrence Schools Foundation, the organization has received more than 750 pairs of brand-new shoes for the 2025-2026 school year. These shoes, along with backpacks and other school supplies, will be distributed at the expo while supplies last. Free haircuts will also be offered by appointment only, and families can schedule those through their school.
Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health will also be offering immunizations and physicals at the event. Families interested in completing a physical should bring their student’s ID or insurance card. According to the post, physicals will be available at a flat rate of $40.
