An event at Lawrence High School will provide students with free formal wear and accessories.

Formal wear for proms and other events can be costly, and in many cases the outfits are worn only once, which makes them good candidates for people who need formal wear but can’t afford — or don’t want — to buy something new.

To that end, the group Prom Dress Lawrence with the Lawrence school district is hosting the Formal Wear Giveaway from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the top of the LHS Learning Stairs at Lawrence High School, 1901 Louisiana St. The event will provide high school students with free formal wear and accessories.

“This is an opportunity to give formal wear a 2nd life & for students to be able to refresh their formal wear without breaking the bank,” a news release from the district said. “Everyone is welcome!”

The committee is also accepting donations of women’s and men’s formal wear, shoes and accessories. If you’d like to donate items or volunteer, call 785-832-5050 ext. 4631.
