The Lawrence school district has announced Jason Kingman as assistant director of special education.

Kingman previously worked as assistant principal and athletic director of Southwest Middle School. He recently completed his fourth year at the school, and his new position will go into effect on July 1. Prior to joining Southwest, Kingman served as a special education facilitator for five years. He also participated in Lawrence Public Schools’ Leadership Academy.

“Jason brings a wealth of experience in special education and offers a fresh and practical perspective on the challenges and opportunities faced by our school principals,” Executive Director of Special Education Lori Stithem said in a press release. “His firsthand experience as a building leader will complement our district’s efforts to enhance the delivery and coordination of special education services across all schools.”

Before arriving at Southwest, Kingman has worked as a student support services compliance manager and special education teacher for five years in school districts across Washington, D.C., and Minnesota. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas and a master’s degree from Hamline University in Minnesota.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my tenure at Southwest Middle School, supporting the staff, students, and families of this amazing school. I will be forever grateful for the experiences I’ve had at Southwest, and most importantly, for the students and staff I have come to know here,” Kingman said in the press release.

“I look forward to rejoining our district special education team and once again supporting the vital work of educating all of our students with exceptionalities,” he said.
