The Lawrence school district has announced Jason Schroeder as the new assistant principal/athletic director for Free State High School.
Schroeder, a longtime Lawrence resident, will step into his new role at Free State in June. Free State Principal Amy McAnarney said in a news release that Schroeder brings both a competitive spirit and a strong vision for advancing the school’s athletic programs. He takes over from Jered Shaw, who had served as Free State’s athletic director since July 1, 2022.
“I’m honored and excited to join Lawrence Free State High School as assistant principal and athletic director. I’m passionate about supporting students both in the classroom and through athletics, and I look forward to building strong relationships with our staff, students, and school families,” Schroeder said in the release.
Schroeder brings eight years of experience as an assistant principal and athletic-activities director in the Atchison and Holton school districts. He also served as transportation director in Holton. His earlier roles include athletic director, physical education teacher and developer of digital high school credit recovery courses and elementary enhancement programs, the release said. He also spent seven years coaching in McLouth. Schroeder holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas and a master’s degree from Emporia State University.
“Jason is approachable, driven, and brings a high level of integrity to this role. He is eager to collaborate with coaches, student-athletes, and the entire Firebird community as he begins this new journey with us,” McAnarney said in the release.
