An associate principal at Lawrence High School will become the new principal of the Lawrence College and Career Center and Academy, Adult Education Services and Alternative Programs.

Superintendent Anthony Lewis has appointed Mark Preut to the role, effective July 1, pending school board approval.

Preut is completing his 13th year at LHS, including four years as associate principal and 11 as an assistant principal. He succeeds Bill DeWitt at the College and Career Center. DeWitt is leaving the district to become principal at Eudora High School.

“A student-focused administrator, Mark has proven leadership skills and experience supporting students engaged in career and technical education pathways, at-risk students, and students seeking alternative paths to graduation and college and career preparation,” Lewis said in the release.

Preut previously served as a junior/senior high principal for six years in the Atchison County Schools in Effingham, and seven years as an assistant principal at Maur Hill-Mount Academy in Atchison. He taught social studies and coached debate, forensics, and wrestling for 13 years at Maur Hill Prep/Maur Hill-Mount Academy.

Preut earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Kansas and a master’s from Benedictine College.

“I am excited to step into this new position and look forward to sustaining and growing the nationally recognized program at the College and Career Center and Academy,” Preut said in the release. “LHS will always hold a special place in my heart.”
