The principals of Lawrence High School and Sunflower Elementary are leaving after this school year for jobs in other districts, according to news releases from the Lawrence school district.
The releases, both sent on Tuesday evening, said that Sunflower Elementary Principal Melissa Blevins and Lawrence High School Principal Jessica Bassett would be resigning effective June 30, pending school board approval.
Bassett has been Lawrence High’s principal for almost two years, according to the releases, and she had previously spent fifteen years as a principal and vice principal at the elementary, middle, and high school levels in Kansas City, Missouri.
“I appreciate the opportunity to work with Lawrence High and have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge, students, staff, and community,” Bassett said in the release.
Blevins, meanwhile, has been at Sunflower for four years, the releases said, and came to the district after two years as an elementary principal in Topeka and six years as an assistant principal at a Kansas City, Missouri, charter school.
“I am incredibly proud of the hard work and accomplishments made by Sunflower staff and scholars, especially during some very challenging times,” she said in the release. “They really know how to push through!”
Also on Tuesday, the district announced that an assistant principal at Liberty Memorial Central Middle School, Brandy Taylor, would be resigning to take a position in another district. Taylor has spent about one year in the assistant principal role.
