The Lawrence school board will meet for a special meeting to continue discussions about its COVID-19 guidance.

Board President Kelly Jones called for the board to meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday to discuss which criteria it wants to use for its version of guidance that outlines how the district should conduct school amid the coronavirus pandemic, the school district said in a social media post.

The board did not adopt Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health’s virus guidance during its meeting on Nov. 23 because some board members wanted to add more criteria to it, such as considering the county’s incidence rates for the virus, which is included in the Kansas State Department of Education’s guidance. During that meeting, the board directed district staff to work with the health department to craft its own version.

The school board will meet through an online conference call. Because of the pandemic, the school district encourages the public to watch the meeting on Midco channel 26 or online at youtube.com/USD497.
