Story updated at 6:17 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2019:

The Lawrence schools superintendent has selected Shaun Hanson, assistant principal of Southwest Middle School, for a districtwide administrative position.

According to a news release from the district, Hanson will fill the role of assistant director of instructional technology and curriculum. Effective immediately, he is replacing Kirsten Wondra, who resigned to accept a position at a local Catholic school, according to the release.

“This is an exciting time in Lawrence Public Schools with our focus on the new strategic plan,” Hanson said in the release. “My goal is to support staff as we provide opportunities for all students to experience success on a daily basis.”

Wondra was also a member of the PowerSchool team, which has been working to troubleshoot the multipurpose software that the district rolled out in August 2018. Hanson will also assume that responsibility, district spokeswoman Julie Boyle confirmed via email Tuesday.

The district will begin a search to fill the vacancy at Southwest.

The school board approved Hanson’s position change at its Monday meeting. He has been with the district since 2013.
