A car went into the Kansas River just off the Eighth Street boat ramp on Wednesday after the driver took a wrong turn, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, and it’s now been removed from the water.

According to a social media post from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the driver accidentally drove into the river on Wednesday evening. Nobody was injured, but the current pushed the car away from the riverbank.

In a separate post, the Sheriff’s Office said that the Douglas County Underwater Search and Recovery Team removed the car from the river just before noon on Thursday. The dive team includes members of Douglas County Operations and Corrections divisions as well as officers from the Lawrence Police Department and Eudora Police Department.
