Two Lawrence police officers on Thursday morning saved a man in a convenience store bathroom after he apparently overdosed on fentanyl.

One of the officers, who happened to be at the Casey’s store for a trespassing call, went to use the restroom at about 5:30 a.m. and happened upon a man who was unresponsive on the floor.

One officer gave Narcan to the man and got him breathing until medics arrived. The other officer performed CPR.

At the hospital the man reportedly told an officer that his last memory was snorting lines of fentanyl off the baby-changing station, then going to wash his hands, according to a police department post on social media. The man is expected to recover.

The police department’s release did not indicate at which Casey’s the incident occurred. An investigation is ongoing.
