A Lawrence woman was charged with aggravated battery Monday after she allegedly beat and kicked another woman, causing severe facial injuries.
Natina Parker, 31, was arrested Saturday evening in the 1000 block of New Jersey Street in East Lawrence. Police said in a release Monday that they found a woman at the scene lying on her back and unable to move or communicate well. The woman’s eyes were purple and swollen shut, the release said, and she was bleeding from her head and mouth, but she was able to tell police who had beaten her.
Officers then went to a nearby home and located the suspect, who had attempted to run before being taken into custody. Police did not identify Parker as the suspect, but the details on the Douglas County Jail booking log indicate she was arrested at the scene Saturday.
The victim was taken to an area trauma center because of the severity of her injuries, including several facial bone fractures, the release said.
Detectives learned that the two women knew each other and had been in a car with a man and a woman when an argument began. The two women continued arguing as they exited the car, which drove off. Police are asking anyone with information about the couple in the car or anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them at 911 or at nonemergency dispatch at (785) 843-0250 or at Crime Stoppers at (785) 843-TIPS (8477).
