Several sets of keys believed to be stolen were recovered Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026.
Several keys have been recovered after a woman allegedly stole them, and the Lawrence Police Department is hoping to find their owners.
On Monday, officers were called to a “storage area” at the 600 block of Massachusetts Street after a man said he was moving boxes and left the garage door open while going in and out. Private areas are located through doors within the storage area, and the man set sunglasses, a jacket and keys inside one of these areas, a social media post from LPD said.
Security cameras captured a woman entering the private area, going down a hallway, grabbing the man’s items and leaving. The man told officers he had several keys to private businesses in the area, and it would cost hundreds of dollars to replace.
The post said officers sent a message to other officers at LPD and an officer recognized the woman and approached her on Tuesday. The officer recovered the man’s keys as well as several others.
The other keys are currently being held at the LPD evidence room. If someone recognizes a set of keys and can prove it belongs to them, LPD said in the post to call non-emergency dispatch at 785-843-0250 to have an officer return their call.
