Caiden Clem, standing, and Daitron Daniels Strickland appear Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2026, in Douglas County District Court with attorneys Carl Cornwell, left, and Razmi Tahirkheli.
The rulings that were expected to be handed down next week in The Hawk shooting cases have now been delayed more than a month after the court granted a continuance.
The attorney for the defendant facing a murder charge in the case sought the continuance because he will be needed for a trial that day in Crawford-Girard County and because reviewing security video evidence in the Lawrence case will require many hours, he wrote in a motion to the court.
That attorney, Razmi Tahirkheli, is defending 18-year-old Daitron Daniels Strickland in The Hawk shooting incident. Another teen facing less serious charges, Caiden Clem, 18, is represented by Carl Cornwell. Both cases have now been rescheduled for April 13.
Aidan Knowles, 18, was killed in the Jan. 17 shooting at the popular college bar, and Brady Clark, 16 at the time but now 17, was critically wounded.
Daniels Strickland, of Shawnee, faces one count of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, criminal possession of a firearm by a felon and misdemeanor battery, while Clem, of Atchison, faces four counts of aggravated assault and one count of criminal possession of a weapon by a felon. Clem waived his preliminary hearing on Feb. 10, when the two men first appeared together in court, meaning he is now ordered to stand trial.
At the April hearing, Judge Amy Hanley is set to arraign Clem and to rule on whether probable cause exists to order Daniels Strickland to trial and whether he will be immune from prosecution based on his claim of self-defense.
