Traffic was being redirected at the intersection of East 1450 Road, or U.S. Highway 24-59, and North 1900 Road north of Lawrence on Wednesday afternoon as first responders attended to a two-vehicle accident.
McKenzi Ezell of Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical said the accident occurred at 1898 East 1450 Road at 1:31 p.m. According to Douglas County Sheriff’s Office spokesman George Diepenbrock, one vehicle was stopped in traffic to turn from East 1450 Road onto North 1900 Road when a car ran into them from behind.
At least seven vehicles from LDCFM and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene, according to the PulsePoint app that provides information to community members during emergencies. At the scene, a black car was in a ditch along the right side of East 1450 Road, and a white vehicle was stopped on the left side of the road, with several first responders attending to its driver.
Diepenbrock said medics checked people at the scene and one person was taken by ambulance to LMH Health with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
