Crews with Union Pacific on Sunday morning are working the scene of a train derailment near Perry, a dispatcher with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed.

The derailment happened Saturday night, but many details about it were not immediately available. A 911 dispatcher on Sunday morning said crews from the railroad were still on scene as of about 8 a.m. on Sunday. The dispatcher said she wasn’t aware of whether anyone was injured in the derailment, as she had just begun her shift and a full incident report hadn’t yet been generated.

Photos of the derailment were posted on a private Jefferson County Facebook group that monitors emergency calls in the county. Posters of those photos reported the derailment was west of Perry near Bridge Road and Kiowa Road, which is an intersection that is just south of U.S. Highway 24.

The Journal-World has reached out to the Union Pacific railroad for more information, but has not yet received a response.
