A 75-year-old woman died in a near head-on crash Monday evening in eastern Lawrence, according to Lawrence police.

The crash occurred around 7 p.m. in the 1500 block of East 23rd Street, just west of the intersection of 23rd and Harper. According to a social media post from the Lawrence Police Department, the woman, Bonnie Susan Hernandez of Lawrence, was driving east, crossed into the westbound lanes and struck an SUV.

Police believe Hernandez was experiencing a medical emergency before the crash, the post said.

When police arrived, a person on the scene was performing CPR on Hernandez; officers and medics also tried to resuscitate her, but she was declared dead at the scene. The people in the SUV suffered minor injuries and were not taken to the hospital.
