Douglas County Sheriff’s Office seeking public’s help in identifying driver involved in fatal hit-and-run

An image of a white- or light-colored truck the Douglas County Sheriff's Office suspects was involved in a fatal hit-and-run on Thursday evening. The Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's help in identifying the vehicle.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in identifying the driver of a fatal hit-and-run that happened Thursday evening north of Lawrence.

According to a news release from the sheriff, a passerby reported to emergency dispatchers at 3:35 a.m. Friday finding a person near the roadway in the 1700 block of East 1500 Road. When deputies responded to the location, they found the pedestrian dead.

Deputies were able to identify the victim as a 20-year old Lawrence woman. They determined she had been struck around 6 p.m. Thursday. The sheriff’s Office has not yet released other details about the victim.

Deputies are seeking information on a “white- or light-colored truck” that is suspected to be involved.
