A Lawrence woman was arrested Sunday afternoon after she allegedly provided vodka to the dogs of another resident.
The incident near 24th Street and Ousdahl Road began as a dispute over a woman who wouldn’t leave another person’s porch, Lawrence Police spokeswoman Laura McCabe said.
When officers arrived, they asked the woman to leave, and she refused. She appeared to be under the influence and was talking about the resident’s dogs. When officers asked her for a third time to please leave, she simply stared at officers with no response, McCabe said.
Officers then asked the resident to see the dogs. The resident brought them out without objection and officers checked their overall behavior and appearance. The dogs — “two young bully mixes,” as described by an officer — appeared healthy and were friendly, but upon further investigation, the officers learned that the woman had allegedly poured vodka into her hands and encouraged the dogs to drink it, which they did. Officers found evidence to back up that accusation, McCabe said, and arrested the woman on suspicion of cruelty to animals and trespassing.
