Lawrence and Douglas County law enforcement took a suspect who was wanted in Johnson County into custody on Saturday evening during a traffic stop that shut down the westbound lanes of Sixth Street west of Tennessee Street.

Sheriff’s office spokesman George Diepenbrock told the Journal-World via email that the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office asked for help in locating a vehicle that was connected to an incident in Johnson County. The vehicle was spotted in Lawrence, he said, and a Lawrence police officer made the stop while the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the arrest and traffic control. Deputies from Johnson County then responded to the scene to take over the investigation.

Several vehicles from both local agencies could be seen around the intersection of Sixth and Louisiana streets during the traffic stop; one man was being placed under arrest by deputies. Traffic was backed up on Sixth Street, where both of the westbound lanes of travel were shut down.
