Westbound 6th Street closed just west of Tennessee Street as police, sheriff’s office make arrest

Sixth Street was closed going westbound on Saturday evening just west of Tennessee Street as Douglas County sheriff’s deputies and Lawrence police officers made a traffic stop and arrest.
Several vehicles from both agencies could be seen around the intersection of Sixth and Louisiana streets during the traffic stop; one man was being placed under arrest by deputies. Traffic was backed up on Sixth Street, where both of the westbound lanes of travel were shut down.
A sheriff’s deputy on the scene declined to comment about the incident. The Journal-World has reached out to Lawrence police and the sheriff’s office for more information.
