Douglas County felony arrests, criminal charges for June 1, 2025

Below is a list of individuals who have been arrested and charged with a felony crime in Douglas County. Due to lag times in charging and records processing, the reporting period for this report is from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 p.m. Sunday to include the weekend.

Defendants listed should be presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Charges filed by the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office may change after they are initially filed as additional investigations are conducted and evidence is submitted.

The Journal-World reports on the conclusion of many felony cases in Douglas County, but not all. Anyone can check on the resolution of a criminal case by inspecting the court file at the Douglas County District Court Clerk’s Office at the Judicial and Law Enforcement Center or online here.

Timothy Edward Thompson, 43, of Lawrence, is charged with four counts of distributing fentanyl and one count of possessing fentanyl. The felony charges relate to three separate incidents between Jan. 29 and Feb. 5, according to charging documents. Thompson is also charged in another case with one felony count of distribution causing death in connection with the heroin overdose death of Blossom Faye Kyle, 25, of Lawrence, on Aug. 26, 2018, as the Journal-World reported.

Geoffry Scott Beers, 49, of Lawrence, is charged with one felony count of aggravated battery in connection with an incident on May 23.

James Allan McCarty is charged with four counts of distribution of methamphetamine and four counts of using a communications facility to commit a felony, all felonies. The charges are in connection with four incidents between Jan. 19 and March 21.

Zjaiton Lee Lewis, 20, is charged with one felony count of aggravated assault in connection with an incident on May 31. Lewis is alleged to have threatened a person with a firearm in the 3300 block of Iowa Street.

Keenan Shaquel Gainous, 30, of Lawrence, is charged with one felony count of aggravated battery in connection with an incident on June 1 in the 600 block of Michigan Street. Gainous is alleged to have used a knife in the incident.
