Lawrence bicyclist dies after being hit by vehicle

A Lawrence man who was struck by a vehicle while bicycling on a road between Lawrence and Eudora has died from his injuries.

The man was identified as Clayton L. Place, 30. According to Douglas County sheriff’s spokesman George Diepenbrock, Place died from his injuries on Wednesday evening at a Kansas City-area hospital.

As the Journal-World reported, the incident occurred on Tuesday evening in the 2000 block of North 1400 Road. That road runs just east of the East Hills Business Park. Place was struck shortly after 8 p.m. by a westbound 2003 Honda Element driven by a 70-year-old Lawrence man.

The name of the driver of the Honda was not released, and details about whether he faces charges also were not released.

Deputies will complete a formal report with their findings on the details of the crash, Diepenbrock said.
