UPDATED 11:25 A.M. JULY 23
A 30-year old Lawrence man remains hospitalized on Wednesday after suffering life-threatening injuries when struck by a vehicle Tuesday evening while bicycling on a road between Lawrence and Eudora.
A spokesman with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday morning that deputies had determined that the Lawrence bicyclist — his name was not released — was struck shortly after 8 p.m. by a westbound 2003 Honda Element driven by a 70-year-old Lawrence man.
As the Journal-World reported Tuesday evening, the incident occurred in the 2000 block of North 1400 Road. That county road also is known as Old Kansas Highway 10 and is the county road that runs just east of the East Hills Business Park. The road was closed to traffic after the Tuesday evening crash, but was reopened shortly after midnight, according to the spokesman.
The bicyclist was transported to a trauma hospital in the Kansas City metro area. A condition update was not provided on Wednesday morning.
The name of the driver of the Honda was not released, and details about whether he faces charges also were not released. The sheriff’s department spokesman said investigators are still working to complete their crash reports from the incident.
