Evergy crews work to repair a power line on 23rd Street on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, in Lawrence.

The Lawrence Police Department urged residents to avoid the area of 23rd Street between Louisiana and Alabama streets Tuesday evening after a crash took down a power line.

According to a post on the police department’s Facebook page, the crash happened Tuesday afternoon with no injuries reported. An update at 5:30 p.m. said the street was still closed and Evergy crews were on site. Repairs were expected to be complete by 7:30 p.m.
