A man accused of child sex crimes waived his preliminary hearing Friday in Douglas County District Court after his attorney said the defense had worked out a plea deal with the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office.

Rylin E. Gipp was charged in September 2024 with one count of aggravated indecent liberties with a child between 14 and 16 years old and one count of sexual exploitation of the same child by possessing pornographic imagery. The crimes are alleged to have occurred between April and Aug. 7 of last year.

At a preliminary hearing the state would have attempted to establish probable cause for Gipp to stand trial, but Gipp’s attorney, Hatem Chahine, told the court Friday that Gipp intended to take a plea deal instead. The substance of the plea deal was not discussed in court Friday. Gipp will next appear before Judge Stacey Donovan on Jan. 16.
