A Lawrence man was charged with multiple crimes on Tuesday after he allegedly attacked people with a beer bottle before trying to run them over.

The man, Ceferino Garcia Reyes, 20, is charged in Douglas County District Court with two felony counts of aggravated battery, one felony count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one misdemeanor count each of criminal damage and battery.

The charges stem from an incident on Monday afternoon in the 3800 block of Elizabeth Court in Lawrence. Police were called to a residence around 4 p.m. Witnesses told officers that Garcia Reyes had been involved in a fight with a 26-year-old man, said Sgt. Drew Fennelly with the Lawrence Police Department.

During the fight Garcia Reyes used a beer bottle and struck the other man on the back of the bead, breaking the bottle, then Garcia Reyes used the bottle to threaten a 19-year-old woman who was also at the scene, Fennelly said.

Garcia Reyes then got into his vehicle and threw an object, striking the 26-year-old man in the face, Fennelly said. Garcia Reyes then drove his vehicle through the yard of the residence, allegedly trying to run over the two people he had been engaged with as well as a third man. No one was hit by the vehicle and all of the people involved declined medical treatment, Fennelly said.

Police arrived before Garcia Reyes left the scene, and he was taken into custody without incident.

Garcia Reyes is being held at the Douglas County jail and is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday afternoon, when his bond will be set.
