A Lawrence man whom a jury acquitted three months ago of attempting to murder his pregnant wife is facing new allegations of domestic violence.

Dustin Ian Lane, 39, was charged Monday in Douglas County District Court with felony criminal threat, misdemeanor criminal restraint and misdemeanor violation of a protective order, all involving the same alleged victim and occurring on Saturday.

Lawrence police, who generally decline to provide details about people accused of domestic violence, revealed no information about the incident that led to the new charges, except to say that no one was injured.

In November 2024, as the Journal-World reported, a jury found Lane not guilty of attempted murder. Jurors also found Lane not guilty of attempted voluntary manslaughter, aggravated intimidation of a victim, intimidation of a victim and criminal restraint. Jurors did find him guilty of one misdemeanor count of violating a protection order, a conviction that came with a finding of domestic violence.

Despite a dramatic 911 call alleging life-threatening violence, Lane’s wife testified at trial that she did not believe that Lane was trying to kill her.

Lane has previous felony convictions in Douglas County for drug possession in 2014 and again in 2017, making a false report in 2017, and aggravated assault in 2007, according to Kansas Department of Corrections records.
