A 24-year-old Lawrence man was arrested Sunday evening on suspicion of drunkenly crashing into multiple parked cars and leaving the scene.

Eduardo Reyes Ruiz was arrested around 5 p.m. Sunday after police were called to an apartment complex on 26th Street just east of Holcom Park. Police found that the driver of a gray SUV had crashed into three parked cars, then took off on foot after ripping the temporary tag off the vehicle he was driving.

Officers found reason to believe the driver was inside another apartment in the same complex. They said they approached him and found signs of impairment. They said they also found the temporary tag that the driver had allegedly discarded in a trash can inside the apartment.

No injuries were reported. Officers conducted field sobriety tests and took the driver, identified as Ruiz in Douglas County Jail booking logs, to jail on suspicion of driving under the influence, leaving the scene, not having a valid license and having open containers in the vehicle.
